PROFILE: DR. WENDY E. DORAN, M.D
ABSTRACT: Wendy E Doran, M.D., is a Board Certified (Diplomate, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology), Harvard trained, licensed child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist and psychopharmacologist. Dr. Doran received her medical doctorate from the University of Miami School of Medicine, and completed her Psychiatric residency training at Harvard Medical School, where she was chosen to be Chief Resident of Psychopharmacology at Harvard's Beth Israel Hospital.
Dr. Wendy Doran is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and a Distinguished Fellow of The American Psychiatric Society. Dr. Doran also is a longterm member of The Florida Psychiatric Society.
Dr. Doran has expertise in the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of major psychiatric disorders; including mood and anxiety disorders;such as major depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and psychiatric disorders exacerbated by stress.
Dr. Doran received her university degree from the University of Miami, with Honors, in PsychoBiology with Minor in Chemistry, in 1990.
She received her Medical Doctorate from the University of Miami School of Medicine, where she won "Top Medical Student in Psychiatry", among other honors, in 1994, and completed her psychiatric residency training at Harvard Medical School, in 1998, where she was chosen to be Chief Resident of Psychopharmacology at Harvard's Beth Israel Hospital.
During her training in Psychopharmacology, Dr. Doran worked closely with several renowned Harvard psychopharmacology experts; including Dr. Carl Salzman, MD; Dr. Ming Tsuang MD; Dr. Robert Birnbaum, MD, Dr. Andrew Stoll, MD; Dr. William Greenberg, MD; Dr. Kerry Bloomingdale, MD; Dr. John Sharp, MD, and many other distinguished Harvard faculty.
Upon completion of her psychiatric residency program at Harvard, Dr. Doran retutned to academic medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine, where she worked primarily as Associate Director of the Mood Disorders Treatment & Research Department . In this unique role, Dr Doran gained invaluable experience and expertise, particularly in the areas of treatment resistant mood and anxiety disorders. She worked closely with Dr. Paul Goodnick, M.D., a world renowned psychiatric expert in psychopharmacology. Dr. Doran was also appointed to the medical teaching faculty of the University of Miami School of Medicine, as Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, and Psychopharmacology.
Dr. Doran has also conducted numerous clinical research trials on promising new medications and treatments for mood and anxiety disorders. Dr. Doran is knowledgeable, experienced, empathic and highly considerate of each of her patient's unique, individual needs. She is dedicated to providing the highest quality of confidential, professional service and medical expertise to all of her patients.
One of Dr. Doran's particular areas of interest and expertise is the evaluation and treament of psychiatric disorders unique to women and adolescents; including premenstrual dysphoric disorder; postpartum depression; and perimenopausal mood disorders.
Dr. Doran performs comprehensive medical psychiatric evaluations and designs individualized treatment plans for school-aged children aged eight and older, adolescents, and adult patients. Dr. Doran opened her private practice in Boca Raton in 2000.
Dr. Doran has given numerous talks, lectures and invited addresses to fellow physicians and mental health specialists. The topics of her lectures have included mood disorders unique to women; new treatments for bipolar disorder; the effects of neurotransmitters on the central nervous system; the treatment of major depression with comorbid medical illnesses such as diabetes; depression and hypothyroidism; and new and evolving treatments for major depression.
Dr. Doran has been chosen many times to be an expert speaker for several reputable pharmaceutical companies.
